Master the White Water Rafting with Stejos Tours and Travel
Few outdoor experiences match the raw energy and team camaraderie of navigating a white water raft down a surging river. At Stejos Tours and Travel, our white water rafting packages and Sagana day trips take you straight to the heart of Kenya's river sport action. Originating from the melting snows of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range, the Tana River offers a spectacular combination of technical technical drops, big wave trains, and calm, scenic drifts through lush valleys.
Led by licensed swift-water river guides, our rafting excursions cater to both first-timers and seasoned paddlers. Every trip starts with an in-depth safety briefing, paddling command rehearsal, and gear fitting. As you work together with your crew to conquer wave after wave, you will also have opportunities for controlled cliff jumps, river swimming, and wildlife spotting along the jungle-lined banks.

Activity FAQs
Do I need to know how to swim to go white water rafting?
While knowing how to swim is helpful, non-swimmers can safely participate on standard rafting stretches. Every participant is fitted with a commercial-grade, high-buoyancy Personal Flotation Device (life jacket) that keeps you afloat in the water, and experienced river guides oversee the entire trip
When is the best time of year for white water rafting in Sagana?
Rafting is available year-round in Sagana. However, water levels are highest during the rainy seasons (April to June and October to December), creating massive Class IV–V waves and fast currents. The drier months offer lower water levels, making the river more technical and ideal for beginners.
What is the minimum age requirement for rafting?
For full Class III–V rafting runs, the minimum age is generally 14 years old. Younger children (ages 6 to 13) can join milder, low-grade family float trips on calmer stretches of the river.
What should I wear and bring for a river rafting trip?
Wear quick-drying clothes (nylon shorts, rash guards, or t-shirts) and secure footwear that won't fall off in the water (such as strap-on sandals, water shoes, or old sneakers). Bring a full change of dry clothes, a towel, sunscreen, and a plastic bag for wet items
How far is Sagana from Nairobi, and how long does the tour take?
Sagana is approximately a 1.5 to 2-hour drive (around 95 km) north of Nairobi via the Thika Superhighway. A typical day trip departs Nairobi at 7:00 AM and returns by 6:00 PM, giving you 3 to 4 solid hours of river activities and lunch.
