Important Notes & Considerations
-
Booking Permits: Chimpanzee trekking permits in Nyungwe are limited, so they should be booked well in advance.
-
Physical Fitness: The trek can be physically demanding (up and down forest terrain), so a moderate level of fitness is helpful.
-
Best Time to Visit: Dry seasons are generally easier for trekking — this can affect both your experience and the chance to spot chimps.
-
What to Pack: Long-sleeved clothes, good hiking shoes, rain jacket, insect repellent, binoculars, and a good camera.
-
Camera Etiquette: Use of flash may be restricted when observing primates — always follow ranger instructions.
-
