Meru National Park is a masterpiece of untamed nature. Famous as the setting for Joy Adamson’s book Born Free, this park offers a unique landscape of 13 permanent rivers, doum palms, and volcanic hills. Staying at the gateway of this wilderness, you will have the opportunity to explore the high-security Rhino Sanctuary, home to both Black and White rhinos, and track the "Big Five" across vast, golden plains.

Day 1: Nairobi to Meru
Depart Nairobi early for a scenic drive through the highland towns of Embu and Meru. Arrive at the park for a late lunch. Head out for your first game drive to visit the Rhino Sanctuary before dinner.
Day 2: Full Day Exploration
Spend the day exploring the park’s diverse habitats, from the swamps to the tall grass plains. Visit the Tana River and search for the elusive leopard and Meru’s famous elephants.
Day 3: Final Game Drive & Departure
Kick off with a sunrise game drive to catch the predators on the move. After breakfast, check out and enjoy a final game drive as you exit the park, returning to Nairobi by evening.

Is Meru National Park better than the Mara?
It is different! Meru offers more privacy (fewer tourists), incredible scenery with 13 rivers, and a dedicated Rhino Sanctuary that is easier to navigate.
What should I pack?
Meru can be quite hot during the day but cool at night. Bring light cotton clothing, a warm jacket for morning drives, and plenty of sunscreen.
Are the roads rough?
Yes, Meru’s terrain is diverse. While a Safari Van can work, we highly recommend a 4x4 Land Cruiser for the best comfort and access to off-road trails.
Is there Wi-Fi at the camps?
Most lodges like iKWETA and Elsa's Kopje provide Wi-Fi in the main lounge and dining areas.
